Encore Ceramics has been producing stunning ceramic tiles for almost fifteen years. Debbie Russell and her husband Barry have over forty years of combined experience in the tile industry. As tile trends have changed and more of our customers are looking for specific looks, so has the catalog of mosaics and field tiles offered from Encore Ceramics. Their unique process of blending original art techniques while developing exquisite ceramics has allowed their company to rise to the top in regards to quality and innovation in the tile industry. This year is no different in that they have come out with an exceptional range of new products including their Plumage, Belvedere, Feather, Miramar, Palmette, and many more.
The ability to mix and match different crackle glazes and matte glazes in the Encore Ceramics collection allows our customers the ability to create custom looks in their applications. Encore Ceramics has recently introduced natural stone into their collections which opens the door to even more possibilities in blending popular stones such as Calacatta Marble and Carrara Marble into their array of ceramic tiles. One of my favorite patterns from Encore Ceramic’s newest collection has got to be their Feather Mosaic. The Feather mosaic is made of tiny crafted ceramic or stone pieces to create a seamless and organic look of feathers on a mosaic platform. The Feather mosaic can be made up entirely from their ceramic tiles in blends of their crackle, matte, or jewel collections. The ability to compliment these ceramics with natural stones allows for the Feather Mosaic to take a much more refined and sophisticated look, especially with greys of Carrara mixed in their grey-tone ceramic colors.
The Belvedere Mosaic from Encore Ceramics is also part of their newest collection to incorporate intricate ceramic tile with that of stone accents as well. The Belvedere Ribbons can be mixed and matched in their Dimensional Tile, Jewel Tile, or Stone which allows for the utmost customization and attention to detail. The details of the Belvedere Mosaic are that of intertwining ribbons of field tile with a background of ceramic tile in either the Jewel or Standard Flat ceramic finish. The uniqueness of this pattern will make it a perfect fit for many of our clients working on traditional homes and need a stunning wainscot in a powder room instead of textured fabric that is generally used. The ability to use mosaics such as these creates a touch of dimension that is unheard of in the marketplace and will definitely make any application stand out and pop.
Please make sure to stop by our Award Winning Los Angeles Tile showrooms to see the newest designs from Encore Ceramics. We proudly display all of the newest patterns from Encore including their Plumage, Palmette, and of course the Belvedere Mosaics. Encore Mosaics has risen to the top when it comes to unique and customizable mosaics that are manufactured in the United States using renewable sources. The most recognizable aspect of their brand is the Encore Ceramics crackle finish which will undoubtedly add a touch of flair to any application you may be working on. The crackle finish from Encore has over fifty colors and a multitude of sizes that can be used to create stunning works of art in your kitchen, bathroom, and even your pool. The Encore Ceramics Piedra Collection combines the beauty of ceramic with the warmth of stone and the dimension of the world. Make sure to witness these stunning mosaics first hand and let us create the next perfect and unique mosaic for your home.

Ardex Americas 8+9 Waterproofing compound is a great example of some of the amazing products that Ardex has come out with. The Ardex 8+9 waterproofing compound is a two component system consisting of a solvent-free and acrylic based liquid component combined with a Portland Cement-based powder. When both of these ingredients are mixed and applied, the components produce a flexible, waterproofing coating that protects substrates from water from above and is meant to provide an excellent bonding layer for both the tile and the setting materials used. The Ardex 8+9 Waterproofing compound is meant to waterproof all common building substrates that require protection from topside water exposure. This waterproofing membrane is meant to be used over interior or exterior concrete and masonry finishes, cementitious Backerboards, drywall, existing tile, and plywood on all interior floors and walls prior to the installation of any tile and stone.
Ardex Americas has released the Ardex 8 + 9 to also be used for exterior balconies and other concrete and masonry surfaces in order to prevent liquid water from penetrating from the topside through the tile application to any areas below such installation. Some of the benefits of the Ardex 8 + 9 Waterproofing is that it is a rapid setting waterproofing and can have tile installed on-top of it in 90 minutes. If flood testing is required, the final coat of the 8+9 waterproofing must have cured for a minimum of four hours. The Ardex 8+9 can also be used as a crack isolation membrane for up to 1/16” without mesh and up to 1/8” with the usage of mesh. Many of our contractors love the ease of use of the 8+9 waterproofing due to the fact that it is easy to apply with a roller and can be used for both interior or exterior floors and walls. This roll-on waterproofing membrane is ideal for commercial or residential bathrooms, showers, and kitchens prior to their installation of tile or stone. The Ardex 8+9 can also be used in the place of a shower pan with its strength and easy-to-use roll-on ability.
As you can see, Ardex Americas has created a wonderful Portland cement two-part waterproofing membrane. The solvent free and rapid setting waterproofing membrane has been having great success with our contractors for both their commercial and residential tile applications. The excellent coverage of up to 100square feet per unit from the Ardex 8+9 has allowed this waterproofing to be used in many bathroom applications with a single unit. We are happy to be one of the few tile stores in the Western United States to be stocking the full collection of Ardex Americas including their FL Grout, X77 thinset, Ardex AF 207, Ardex Liquid Backerboard, and the Ardex CA20P adhesive. Please make sure to stop by either of our two Award Winning Tile showrooms for all of your Ardex needs.

Schluter Systems is continually expanding their collection of drains and waterproofing systems to make it easier for homeowners and contractors to implement them into their construction and design. The Schluter Kerdi-Drain and the Schluter Kerdi-Line floor drains provide a secure and simple connection to bonded waterproofing membranes at the top of the assembly in order to deliver proper drainage that is directed to the top of the drain. The Schluter Kerdi-Drains are specifically designed to be used in conjunction to bonded waterproofing assemblies such as showers, steam rooms, wet rooms, bathroom floors, commercial kitchen floors, and other applications that require proper waterproofing and drainage. The Schluter Kerdi-Drains are available in two different formats; the traditional 4” round or square outlets, as well as the more contemporary linear drains meant for curbless showers or walk-in showers.
The Schluter Kerdi-Drain is a floor drain that is specifically designed to allow for connections to Schluter-Kerdi. The Kerdi membrane is adhered to the large integrated bonding flange to form a waterproof connection at the top of the drain assembly. The Kerdi-Drain consists of a drain casing along with a fully adjustable grate assembly or covering to which tile can be applied too. The grate assembly is meant to accommodate a wide range of tile thicknesses and allow for both lateral and tilt adjustment as well. The standard Kerdi-Drain is attached directly to the waste-line. The drain casing is available in ABS, PVC, or stainless steel depending on the application you are using it for. The simple connection to standard drain-outlets makes the Schluter Kerdi-Drain suitable for new construction as well as home renovations. The Schluter Kerdi-Drain adaptor kit is particularly useful for renovations where the clamping ring drains are difficult to replace since they are set directly in the concrete slabs. The convenient adjustment of the drain grate makes the Schluter-Kerdi-Drains not only adaptable to different tile selections but also convenient for quick and simple installations in both commercial and residential applications.
The Schluter Kerdi-Line is a low profile floor drain that is specifically designed for bonded waterproofing assemblies. The Kerdi-Line can be installed adjacent to walls or immediate locations. The benefit of the Schluter Kerdi-Line is that the floor can be sloped on a single plane to the Kerdi-line, thus allowing for the usage of large-format tiles. The Schluter Kerdi-Line consists of a formed stainless steel channel body along with a grate assembly, or covering support which tile can be applied too. The grate assembly consists of a brushed stainless steel frame along with two different design grate options; Option A which is a closed designed brushed stainless steel grate, Option B which is a brushed stainless grate with square perforations. The covering support is a stainless steel plate which is covered with Kerdi-Membrane on the surface in order to allow ceramic or stone tile to properly adhere to it and creating a virtually invisible drain-age line. There are several new additions to the Schluter Kerdi-Line that we are extremely excited to start stocking in our showrooms. In addition to the available lengths that range from 24” to 48”, comes the availability of longer lengths ranging from 52” all the way to 72”. The closed, perforated, and tileable grate options will be available in any of these new Kerdi-Line sizes. Along with the new longer lengths for the Schluter Kerdi-Line, comes the availability of the Kerdi-Line channel body available in an off-set outlet. This is a huge advantage for it allows for immense flexibility in order to help avoid any obstructions in the plumbing.
We are thrilled that Schluter Systems has recently released these larger Kerdi-Line drains for we are seeing a huge upturn in the market for contemporary and modern bathroom installations. With many of our customers tearing out old tub surrounds and replacing them with walk-in showers, the new larger linear drains are perfect for these types of bathroom remodels. With the ability to install a 56” linear drain in the back of an old tub-surround creates a wonderfully modern and clean shower installation that can be properly sloped to allow for large format tiles on the floor. These new larger linear-drains are sure to be a hit with our customers and contractors as well because more and more new construction is being made with larger walk-in showers that feature the curbless shower installation method. The availability of a 72” linear drains, allows for a much larger and wider shower which fits the needs of many of our customers who are creating large steam enclosures using the Schluter Kerdi membrane or Kerdi-Board. As you can see, there is a huge benefit of using the Schluter-Kerdi Drains along with the Schluter-Kerdi-Line Drain system. The ease of use along with the quality attached to using Schluter Systems and their products has allowed their linear drains and standard drains to grow exponentially in the marketplace. We are pleased to stock all of the necessary Schluter systems and their products including the coveted Schluter Kerdi-Drains and Schluter Kerdi-Line linear drains in both of our Los Angeles Tile stores.

As we mentioned last week in our previous post on the wonderful advantages of the Laticrete Hydro ban shower system, this revolutionary system has expanded wonderfully into the world of Linear Drains and traditional bonding flange drains. The Laticrete Hydro Ban Linear drain is a low profile linear floor drain that has been specifically designed for bonded waterproofing installations in conjunction with the Hydro Ban waterproofing membrane. The usage of the Laticrete Hydro Ban Linear Drain allows for it to be used with large format tiles or stone installations in a shower with only a single plane of slope for the drain. This is a huge advantage for our customer’s wanting an installation using modern and contemporary sized tiles and wanting a linear drain for their curbless or walk-in shower. The Laticrete Hydro Ban Linear Drain can be installed near the shower walls or at medial locations throughout the shower as well once the proper waterproofing has been done. Some of the advantages of using the Laticrete Hydro Ban waterproofing system in conjunction with their Linear Drains are that the single slope to the drain offers the ability to create a curbless or walk-in shower, the tile-in grate is available to match the tile and create a seamless look on your showroom floor, and the Hydro Ban waterproofing membrane bonds directly to the stainless steel flange allowing for a much easier and faster installation than traditional methods.
The traditional Laticrete Hydro Ban Bonding Flange drains are low profile drains that have been specifically designed to be used in conjunction with Laticrete Hydro Ban waterproofing similar to the method of using the linear drains. The Bonding Flange Drains are made up of heavy duty PVC and 304 stainless steel to insure a long lasting performance for your bathroom application. This high quality made in America drain also offers numerous grate options that are sure to match any of the hardware chosen for your bathroom remodel; oil rubbed bronze, brushed nickel, and stainless steel. One of their more popular grate options is the tile-in option, which allows a piece of your tile to be cut and placed on the drain allowing for a very clean and contemporary look. Many of our customers are building more contemporary or transitional bathrooms and are using the tile-in grate option in order to see less of the drain on their shower floor. As you can see, the Laticrete Hydro Ban Bonding Flange drains are great options for a bathroom remodel when being used in conjunction to the Hydro Ban waterproofing for their ease of use is second to none.
One of the nice benefits from the ever growing collection of Laticrete Hydro Ban products are their introduction of pre-formed niches. The Laticrete Hydro Ban preformed niche is constructed out of lightweight high density polystyrene with a waterproof finish which allows for a quick and easy installation. All you do is pop these into your walls, and you are ready to tile-over them immediately after. These amazing shower niches are available in a variety of sizes such as 12”x12” square, 12”x12” & 12”x6” combo niche, 8”x12” & 8”x6” combo niche, 12”x20”, and an 8”x8” soap dish. It is amazing that Laticrete has come up with such a variety of different sizes for their niches for it allows them to be integrated into almost any shower or bathroom you are building. Since they are already coated with a waterproof material, there is no prep time needed for this, just install them, and tile right over them. This is a great advantage for tile contractors installing multiple bathrooms in a home or commercial installations where speed is of the essence. We are happy to be displaying and stocking this large of variety of Laticrete Hydroban products in our Award Winning Showroom. The continual support and innovation coming out of Laticrete has always left a huge mark on the industry which is why many of our contractors are loyal to using these fabulous products such as the ones highlighted above.
